Today’s recipe is Kottayam style fish curry. It’s a red-hot fish curry recipe goes well with rice. This fish curry is one of the all-time favorite fish curries in Kerala. Let’s see how to make this spicy fish curry at home.





Kottayam style Fish Curry





Ingredients


Fish-1/2 kg (here I used Mackerel)
Ginger-2tsp
Garlic-2tsp
Shallots-8 to 10
Green chilly-2
Chilly powder-2 or 3 tsp
Coriander powder-2 tsp
Turmeric powder-1/4tsp
Kashmiri chilly powder-1 tsp(optional)
Fenugreek powder-1/4tsp
Fish tamarind/kudam puli-2 to 3 big ones
Mustard seeds-1/2tsp
Curry leaves
Coconut oil-2 to 3 tsp
Salt
Warm water-2cups

Preparation

·         Wash, clean and cut the fish in to medium sized pcs.
·         Wash and soak fish tamarind/kudam puli in warm water for at least 15 mins and wash it 2 to 3 times.
·         Make a paste of all masala powders in little water and keep it aside.
·         Heat coconut oil in pan or in a clay pot and add mustard seeds, curry leaves.
·         Once it splutters add ginger, garlic, green chilly and saute it for some time.
·         Then add shallots.
·         Saute it again till it turns golden.
·         Now add the masala paste to it on a low flame.
·         Saute it for a minute or until the oil starts separating.
·         Add 2 cups of warm water, salt and kudam puli.
·         Boil it for some time and then add fish pcs.
·         Now cover the lid and cook it till the fish gets done and the gravy is medium thick.
·         If the gravy is too sour, then remove 1 or 2 kudam puli pcs.
·         Finally switch off the flame, add curry leaves and coconut oil.

   Kottayam style fish curry is ready serve.
