Velleyappam is my one and only
favorite breakfast. It’s a very common and famous
breakfast of Kerala. Today
let’s see how to make Vellayappam at home.
Vellayappam |
Ingredients
Raw Rice(Pachari/Long
grain rice/Langkorn Rice/Idli Rice)-1 ½ glass
Coconut Milk or
grated coconut- 1 cup
Cooked rice- 2tsp
Yeast- 1tsp
Sugar-1/2 tsp
Salt as required
Preparation
·
Soak rice in water for overnight or 5 hours.
·
To dissolve yeast, take some hot water and add
yeast and sugar to it. Let it sit for 5 minutes till it become frothy. Keep it
aside.
·
Then grind all the ingredients to a very smooth flowing
batter by adding required water.
·
Then pour the batter to a wide vessel and keep
it aside for fermentation (approx. 8 to 12 hrs).
·
To make velleyappam, heat an appam pan, then pour
a ladle of appam batter.
·
Then hold the handle of appam pan and rotate the
pan in circular motion and put it back.
·
Now you can see some holes are forming and close the lid. Cook it for 3 to 4 minutes.
·
Once cooked remove appam using a spatula.
Serve it hot with Coconut
milk, Egg curry, Chicken curry or Potato stew.
